Unfortunately it's common, or at least it has happened to me too in the past. Hospitals will often bill out for each individual procedure (e.g. anesthesiologist, OB/GYN, pediatrician, hospital stay expenses, pharmacy, ENT specialist for hearing tests, etc.). If the bill isn't paid, then you have separate CA TLs listed for each item. I think due to HIPAA, they cannot merge them, but I could be wrong. It would be worth it to ask the OC to see if they would merge them together.

After having my son in 2009 and loosing my job shortly after I accumulated some medical bills. It appears that the collection agency has entered every charge as a trade line although its all for the same original creditor/hospital and 8 out of 9 lines have the same acct # but for different amounts.

Has anyone ever had this happen? Can they enter the itemized charges from the same account for medical collections or should it be listed as 1 tradeline and a total amount?
