New Card - Dont Want, What To Do?

No idea why I applied but I got the CareCredit card and I will NEVER use it. Was drunk and applied for no reason...now I have this card like an idiot with $1500 CL but don't want it. Came in the mail today and not sure if I should activate it or close it.

Whats my best course of action without messing up my score?

- Close it?

- Keep for few months then close it?

- keep but NEVER use and let them close due to inactivity?

Seriously I will never use it...I messed up by applying like a dummy after too many beers.

Thoughts?

You can ask them to delete the TL but if unsuccessful your AAOA has already taken a hit.

ok so I should call and ask to delete TL and close account immediately?

How much of a hit on my score will I take between the HP and the drop in AAoA?

If they remove the entire TL, you won't have a hit to your AAOA.

You already took the hit, so make the most out of it.

Activate, lock away, and let it pad your utility until it dies (deactivated for inactivity).

FICO doesn't care who closed the account. If you get questioned after a manual review, that's a valid reason, and one they could easily verifiy after seeing a bunch of zero balances.

I vote for keeping it and SDing it. Or find a use for it. if your doctor takes it, use it for co-pays. Or if you have pets and buy stuff through a vet who accepts it, do that.

DUI = Driving Under the Influence Penalty: Fines, jail, revoke of DL, higher insurance costs

AUI = Apping Under the Influence Penalty: Getting yelled at and publicly shamed by the GC

Chalk it up as a learning experience and figure out how you can avoid this in the future. The damage has already been done.
