I should know, because that's what I got in Math.

I know this has been talked about before, but I think it may help someone to post it here.

I was worried I had screwed up my credit because my high limit card reported a balance of 1100 dollars. (I paid it immediately but it still hit before the payment posted). I was scared to get my score but thought ok, I have to know (curiousity killed the cat) and did it. Actually the scores are now higher by about 5 to 10 points.

But my point I wanted to share is Creditkarma gives you a simulated score, based apparently on a TU model. My CK score is 698. But my TU FICO is 763. CK rates me "fair" in terms of credit score, but a 763 FICO is not a score one usually associates with "fair" credit. Obviously CK scores much differently than a FICO does.

I think it's important for people to know this and not put TOO much stock in what CK says. It's a great free service, but you have to take their numbers with a grain of salt. They also rate me a "poor" auto insurance risk, but I haven't had a claim, ticket, or accident in well over 20 years, and my credit is good, so how they would define a "good" auto risk, I have no clue, but again I think you have to really take what is said there with a big grain of salt.

Just hope this info is helpful/useful to you guys.

+1 Credit Karma is good for monitoring your TU credit report. That is all. Their credit score and credit advice are all FAKE. Don't trust either one.

CK also told me I had good approval odds with the Venture Card, which generally for very good to excellent credit. But then again, SO DID MyFico! I was just denied and I am a little disgruntled about it.

Yeah, I know. I'm trying.Thing is, I'm just clawing for every point I can get. All simulators pointed to a beneficial bump from adding another card. And now, I'll get docked points instead because of the inquiry.

The funny thing is that I don't *NEED* the card. I live just fine without cards. I'm using/acuiring them now to go through the robotic motions of increasing my score. I'm not a credit "risk" regardless of my score says. I'm just looking for credit score increases.

I know that rings hollow and has no meaning but it's the truth.

The ck score is a "transrisk" score. It doesn't factor things the same way that fico does. For example, transrisk calculates an average age of open accounts, whereas fico calculates average age of all reporting accounts (open or closed). I learned this when I closed a credit card and the transrisk tanked, while ex fico and tu vantage didn't budge. You cannot use these scores to predict the scores your lender uses. Heck, you can't even use the myfico scores (if you need them to match exactly). Wells Fargo pulled "plus" scores to approve my mortgage. Go figure. What you can use them for is to determine when an event you are waiting for has happened. If you are waiting to see when a new credit card posts to your tu report, a sudden change in ck and vantage scores can hint that it is now worth spending money for a tu fico, etc. I also used it to see when a collection account that was supposed to delete finally deleted from tu. got a 40 point score bump the day experian showed the account as deleted, so felt comfortable applying for a new card feeling confident it wouldn't be there. But I would never use a ck score to interpolate my actual lender score.

Another funky thing about CK - they pull TU it would seem, however, my Cap One is now reporting on TU and EQ, but CK does not see the card. Makes me wonder if they are channeling EX or something? I haven't checked that in the last 3 weeks, but I can tell you for certain the new account is now reporting on EQ and TU.

I'm thinking more and more, in this case we get what we pay for.
