800 across the board

So I finnally hit 800 across the board! That's not bad considering I applied for 4 new credit cards and a loan this year (had to replace the roof)! Utilization is 3% yay! Score building has been a huge focus. It's enabled me to take my mind off some very difficult life issues with my family. Super happy with the scores! Now I plan to raise them a bit more so they can stabilize and stay in the 800 zone. I have all the credit I need so probably won't apply for much else for awhile, but will probably purchase a car in 2015.. Just thought I'd share!

How long did it take you to hit 800, and from what score did you start?

We started looking at our scores about 8 years ago. Hubby and I were on the verge of divorce and everything was a mess. Dh always let me do what I wanted financially and otherwise. He left the marriage and when he came back one of the things I realized I had to change was giving up control of the finances since it just wasn't working my way. We set a budget and shared the responsibility of paying things. I had terrible spending habits from my parents who had a tiny budget and operated on fear.

our scores were at 510. We closed the few credit cards we had and started saving and regrouping fortunately there is one account that remained on my credit report. This has helped my aaoa. The changes for us happened a little before the economy crashed so we were ahead of that mess as far as saving money, living more frugally, and developing a commitment to better spending habits.

About 2 years ago we opened one or two credit cards each, refinanced the house, bought two cars...and things started moving along a lot faster! I'd say we were in a fog for a very long time. Now I check my scores daily and monitor spending and financial trends more closely and we talk a lot more about our financial goals.were still very frugal even though we

Congrats to you and the hubby! What an accomplishment! The key item as you described in your post was the "communication" towards a shared "commitment" to improve your financial condition. That is where I am with my DH and from the progress we've achieved in 2014, I'm confident we'll achieve even more in 2015! This forum is invaluable.
