Barclays ID verification asking about my sister???

I recently got a new Barclays NFL Extra Points card primarily because I wanted to take advantage of the 15 months 0% interest balance transfer offer. When loggged into my account I can do the BT by entering the account # of the CC/loan I want to do a BT from. Before that step it asks a series of questions for ID verification, such as did I ever live in (choice of 4 counties), and did I get a loan from XXX bank in 2008? That's fine, that's all in my CR. But then it started asking questions about my sister, such as did she live in XXX City? That creeped me out, there is no info about my sister on my CR, or any connection on any public record - we've never owned anything together and I sure as heck would never co-sign anything for her (love her dearly, but $$$ goes through her fingers like water). She has the same last name but so do a bunch of other people. Yeah, part of what bothers me is that she has really dreadful credit. Well, OK, that's a big part of why it bothers me, but there is no way Barclays should have any connection to her and I. She of course knows my DOB & address, but I'm certain she doesn't know my Social Security #, and if she ever did apply for credit in my name (which I highly doubt) I would see it in my CR & monitoring alerts.

Any thoughts? Am I just over reacting?

Welcome to the "Brave New Future" with creepy "Big Brother."

LexisNexis maintains enormous files on people. They gather every piece of conceivable information they can find and store it. They likely associated her with you from having lived at a same address or somehow relating her to you in some way. The scan every record, every news article, every real estate transaction -- if it's data and they can find it -- they store it so they can sell it. Totally creepy.

These creepy questions are used for ID verification because likely only you would know the answers.

Don't be surprised if you get a question about the color of the bike your sister got in first grade. It is within the (new) realm of possibiliies in which we live.

The CRA's subscribe to LN and use it (among other companies) for ID verification.

This information is also used for employment background checks, etc.

Interesting. I was thinking of only what's on my CR, didn't think Barclays would use LexisNexis. We did live at the same address - 30+ years ago. As I think about it, it could be from when I paid her past due mortgage a 4-5 years ago, or a couple years ago when I paid her past due property taxes. (One of the annoying things about her is when she gets into financial trouble she waits until the sheriff is literally days away from posting a foreclosure notice or sale for unpaid property taxes on her door before she asks for help.)

I had a verifiction question asking for my father's ex-wife's birthday. They've been divorced for quite some time now, so I had no idea what to answer. Unfortunately I failed the verification.

No clue where that came from, so this post helps shed some light on it.

Its normal verification. Youll get questions about your parents/siblings/aunts and uncles, what city they resided in, what city they were born in what month their birthday is in.

99% of the questions I receive are not about me and have nothing to do with me. I almost always have to click I dont know, sometimes that locks me out. (a perk of some felon with my name who got in trouble, even had to remove a loan that wasnt mine years ago, that was his)
