USAA Approval

Hey guys,

I know this is for credit card applications, but I wasnt exactly sure where to post. My boyfriend has had USAA for a while now due to his mom being retired military and holding an account with them as well. I was under the impression that with USAA the only way you can get an account with them is through your parents or spouse. Today I was bored and thinking I wonder if they will approve me for membership even though we're not married. I put in all my information and provided his social and the next screen said Congratuations, you are nos a member of USAA. I was not expecting this but I'm finally in with them!! Maybe someone one will find this useful. Hopefully they do not catch this mistake and ask for documentation

They let domestic partners become members. You're fine. Have done it before.

I did not commit fraud. Why would I openly post this if I did? I said my BOYFRIEND has an account not my husband. They did not ask me for any documentation; however, my boyfriend gave me his ssn and account number so that I could apply and I was approved for an account. I was always told that USAA memebership requires you to be married or your mom/dad has to have an account.

It was merely a question, not an accusation. Didn't mean to incite rage in you!! So, while at the USAA website it states those who are eligible for membership:

Who Can Join?

Active, retired and honorably discharged officers and enlisted personnel of the U.S. military
Cadets and midshipmen at U.S. service academies, in advanced ROTC or on ROTC scholarship, plus officer candidates within 24 months of commissioning
Individuals whose parents have or had USAA auto or property insurance (the boyfriend)
Former USAA members who had auto or property insurance
Widows, widowers and un-remarried former spouses of USAA members who had USAA auto or property insurance while married

Yes, I am aware that you said "boyfriend" and no where above does it state that girlfriends of members are also eligible. However, it seems like you found a way in!! Guess you learn something new everyday.

Let's all remember the FSR guidelines. While you may not have intended to, your question did come across as accusatory. Whether it's listed under the guidelines for membership or not, domestic partners at the same address can join.

I'm sorry, I DON'T agree with you Irish80. No where in her post does she state they are domestic partners, nor does she state they live together. It's just that you conveniently summed up what she did as a domestic partner.

Furthermore, Domestic partners need to be registered at a courthouse or other designated government office. It's not enough for bf/gf, bf/bf, and/or gf/gf who are living together as an unmarried couples to claim they are now domestic partners.

Not sure where you get these ideas that somehow you have to be registered as domestic partners for you to be eligible for USAA or anything else for that matter. I've added my g/f to my USAA account and she was able to get her own membership later. I've also added her to several insurance policies as a domestic partner and scores of other associations. Not once did we have to register or go to a courthouse.

Any type of "partner" has become a flashpoint today subject to interpretation. Some organizations have more liberal interpretations, others not so much.

USAA? I dunno BUT, they do have varying levels of membership.

WTH? They even let Marines join!

Lol!! This has gone in a new direction. I did take his response as accusatory. Maybe it was the way he worded his question, but I did feel some type of way when I read it. To touch on what a previous person hit on. We do live together and have for a few years now, so maybe that's why. I'm not sure.

Well back to your original post..... congrats on getting in with USAA. I really do love them and they have treated me very well. I have nothing but good things to say about them so I think you will really like being apart of the USAA family, Welcome!!!

Yup! I was able to get my car insurance through them yesterday! $99 a month full coverage
