Not exactly sure why I have a hard pull?! I didn't apply for credit! I wonder if I can dispute?

Are you sure you did the Pre-Qual? It should only ask for last 4 SSN.

Also it should be a SP. If you are looking in the section of "Inquiries not see by others" Then those are SP.

Yeah, only asked for last 4 digits and I found the exact page I was on. It's definitely the pre-qualier page. I also double checked and it's showing as a hard pull. I'm going to dispute. I DID NOT apply for a Citibank card.

Give them a call and see if they can tell you why and have it removed. If not, you will have to dispute it with the CRA pulled.

Credit inquiries are not limited to requests for credit.

A business obtains permissilbe purpose to pull your credit report if you have initiated a business transaction with them for which there is a legitimate business purpsoe for reviewing your credit as part of the transaction, even if there is no extension of credit.

I just went on their pre-qualification site and it definitely is not to be a hard pull. I'm in the garden and not looking for a card but I did the pre-qual just for giggles. Not surprising I was not pre-qualified anyway. If it turns into a HP I will report back.

I check Citi's pre approval about once a week. Never resulted in a hard pull.

Except that they very clearly state the following on the page:

Tell us about yourself and see what offers are available to you - it'll only take a minute and it will not impact your credit score.

I knew I had to wait until my student loans rehabbed, so I would NEVER apply until then. I found the site I was on based on previous laptop activity and I got an alert a couple days after. I didn't apply and I received a hard pull. I have no idea why. I called Experian and asked about a few other things and forgot to ask about the inquiry, so I'll call the bank tomorrow. And, call experian back to dispute if necessary.
