Closed 8 "store" cards.

ok...so i was weak the last 5 months and apped for cards just to app because I was getting approved for everything that was a "store" card. Ive kinda gotten out of that frame of mind now, and looking at the bigger picture later down the road.

Today closed 8 store cards, and the names of the cards are irrelivant ......the total amount between all the cards closed was $3700, so as you can imagine, the limits were lower toy ones. This Will not effect me one bit in my overall utilization, and they will continue to report for the next 10 yrs anyways.

At the end of the year, I will reevaluate my "store card" situation again, and see what else I can live without..I actually feel good about doing this.

Yay pizza!! Good for you. You don't need them! And eventually when you get all your prime cards you can only keep the ones you actually shop at. Which ones did you close?

Congrats--I'm going to do some trimmimg in a couple of months also--but keeping any of the 6 store cards I have which have VERY HIGH growth potetial via SP CLI. I don't have J. Crew but I saw someone on here the other day with a $12K and some change limit! Just something to keep in mind as you continue to close yours.

Pizza has plenty of limit to not worry about growing store cards. She does need to keep growing scores in mind (more important).

I'm almost too embarrassed to say but the ones I closed are: BP gas, Texaco/Chevron gas, Valero gas, Banana Republic, New York & Co, Kohls, Eddie Bauer, Nebraska Furnitune Mart.

I have a lot more cards, that I WON'T reveal at this time, lol!!! I've got plenty of credit and cards, so this will effect me none as said earlier.

At this point in my credit game, I'm only getting approved for store cards, not majors, so I will garden, work on CLI on my majors, and close 10 more store cards over the next year.

I just got carried away as we all do sometimes, but sitting down and really thinking about things, made me think about what I want long term, not just short term and the feeling of yet another store and approval.

Focus on the mortgage you're chasing in 2 years. I know it sucks focusing on such a comparitively long-term goal especially reading these forums but from personal experience I can assure you it's worthwhile!

Paring down always feels good. Congrats, pizza. I am glad you are coming to your senses and realizing you do not need every card.

If you do want a mortgage down the road, gardening is the way to go. For a long time. You have a lot of inquiries and cards. Your report will show this and could make a mortgage lender very leery. If you chill for awhile (even if it's 2 years) you'll have a much better chance of a favorable mortgage approval. I know it can be "boring" gardening but most of us have far more credit than we will ever need anyway. Good luck! Keep up the progress.

Congrats on lightening the load...wish you could have willed the NFM card to me. I burned them in 2010 BK and they won't let me in again unless

I pay them back which ain't gonna happen. Did I see somewhere you had a Marathon gas card?

10 more? Well you're off to a great start, congrats!

I actually feel lucky that I never got on the store card bandwagon because, if you've had credit problems in the past like many (dare I say most) people on myFICO have had, then any types of approvals feel good. I learned about the SCT and tried J Crew immediately and it worked! That card has now grown to $1550 in about 5 months. I actually tried the SCT at about a dozen more places and the pop-up has never come up again. Just dumb luck on my part that I didn't end up with 10+ store cards. I'm happy with the J Crew because of growth potential and I actually love the Amazon store card because I buy pretty much everything from there. I might consider Lowes or maybe Wal Mart somewhere down the line, but you definitely need to be careful that each card fits your needs.
