Someone is trying to open auto insurance in my name...

I got a denial letter in the mail due to my report being frozen, but I never authorized Allstate to run my credit for an insurance application, which means someone else did. Luckily the freeze helped me, but I haven't had the freeze in place that long. Is there a data base or something that I could put in my info and see if there are any exisiting policies in my name for anything that's out there. I've already had to go through a bankruptcy because of my dad, and I surely don't want to have to fight identity theft when I'm still rebuilding.

Something similar happened to a family member not in immediate family... Another family member tried to get insurance without permission or consent...

(basically identity theft in family)... Needless to say they ended up getting caught for opening and maxxing out a bunch of cards...... and ended up in jail

The freeze did its job..

Id suspect family... Might want to consider opting out of marketing for a bit, along with looking at Extended Fraud Alerts vs/along with the Freeze

You might do a bit more investigation before going the Extended Fraud Alert route, and only do an Initial Fraud Alert, which is only for 90 days.

Imposing an Extended Fraud Alert must be accompanied by a copy of a police report. You might not yet want to assert an actual idendity theft until you have cleared the likely suspects......

Thanks for the info guys. I have no idea who it could be. All of my family members said they didn't do that. Is there a way I could tell with Allstate?

What make model and year of car were they trying to insure? That will tell you if it's family, and if so, who.

If a creditor or insuror wont voluntarily release to you documents pertaining to the applicatiobon of credit or insurance, you can file a police report asserting that you did not authorize the applications, and then send a copy of the police report to the creditor or insuror, and obtain all business records in their possession relating to the allleged use of your identity. See FCRA 609(e).

That is a powerful discovery right that is available withut need to bring civil action and compel discovery thru the courts.

It may not, unless you are a handwritng analyst, tell you much, but it is at least a start......

Sad but true story... I'm the only one in my family that has a car other than my cousin which wouldn't have/know my personal info.
