Except that for some lenders who may have restrictive lending requirements, one could contact them beforehand thereby avoiding the pitfall of going nilly wily with an application that can have this type of outcome - UMB is no exception. For instance, BBVA has restrictions for some of their CCs (except for the NBA AmEX) outside of their banking footprint. FNBO has similar restrictions for some CCs. Huntington comes to mind as well as US Bank for their business footprint. The list goes on.

Interesting. The last time I spoke with a bank representative (not a CSR but someone at their branch) mentioned the restriction for one of my states of residence but not the other. I assume you applied for the UMB Simply Rewards Visa since you had made a comment about it in a previous thread somewhere. Anyhow, I don't know who you spoke with directly but a moot point now.

Also, be sure you read the application disclosures for UMB (some banks include this before you apply) since UMB's UW is way conservative and sometimes they can and may require POI - YEMV;

Besides all that, I thought OP had already asked about UMB before and been told they were geographically limited, so why someone would apply anyway and then hassle with removing the HP is beyond me.

But whatever -- works out in the end I guess.

Well you see, that's the problem with this forum. Everyone is scared to get what they want. If I see something valuable to me, in this case the UMB card, I'm definitely going to do everything I can to obtain that card.

One example would be me trying to get the FNBO BucksBack card, arguably one of the best 2% cards. The website itself states that it is geographically limited, yet I still tried -- and got it. I get what I want. If I don't, at least I tried.

There's a difference between being "scared" and being smart. If I know the UMB card is geographically restricted, and other forum members have told me such, and ALSO told me that they will do a HP but still deny me, why waste the time applying?
