I don't know what Hoosier means?? But I bank with WSECU in WA state. They are fabulous. My CC is at 8.00% interest 0% bal transfer. 3.24% car loans. Super easy to deal with. As I posted earlier they allow you to pay your credit cards with your other credit cards. I am not finding out how rare that really is. I've definitely hit the jackpot with them.

Long shot, but any Hooseris recommend a local credit union? I've looked around online but none really stand out. In fact, some look wretched.

Just looking for something local.

It's not a guaruntee of competence but honestly my first stop when evaluating CU's is something like this:

http://credituniondirectory.net/Indiana-credit-unions.html

And sorting by asset size. Bigger is quite often better in terms of product offerings and competence statistically at least when talking CU's. Your best bet might be just to walk into a couple and start chatting... you're right, not all CU's are created equally, but don't judge them by their websites: some are horrendously bad but offer sweetheart deals to their members. I've been a member of DCU for 15 years now since they were a benefit from one of my old employers, but it just so happens with my awkward 700 FICO I qualify for their best home equity loan and HELOC rates which is 3.5 and 3.25% respectively currently. That's between 1 and 3% better than what I can get from elsewhere that I looked at (about 20 lenders, admittedly ain't the sum of the lending world).

That's the power of a good CU, and they're awkward to deal with (paperwork fetish), and their website is worse than awkward, but there's some gems out there and I don't have to talk to them that often anyway... just need to find them and face to face interaction is never to be discounted in this case as in so many others too for your purposes..

Hoosier here, personally I gave up and went out of state for my credit union. Decided I did not need a local branch and went elsewhere. The best known that I'm aware of myself is IU Credit Union but the locations are few and far between, though I have heard overall good things about them.

I looked and looked for others but at least in my area the options are few, and usually tiny to boot.

Yeah, I am already a member of a couple out of state CU, and USAA is my primary bank. It is just nice to have something local.

I went with Chase.

I'm in Indy and I use Forum Credit Union. I like them! I have a car loan, credit card (both great interest rates) and checking and multiple savings accounts. I also bank with Chase. I plan to eventually move my Chase savings all over to FORUM CU because I can accrue more interest with Forum.
