How accurate is CCT compared to MyFico? Is it reliable? I get so many varied scores, my free monthly credit card scores are always over 700, CK is a bit lower than CCT is showing me. CC application reponses are always either really high or really low.

I get so many varied scores, my free monthly credit card scores are always over 700, CK is a bit lower than CCT is showing me. CC application reponses are always either really high or really low.

Always consider the specific scoring model & CRA used when referencing a score. Don't just assume that one model is accurate/reliable and all others are not. There are many scoring models used by creditors out there and they will not all generate the same or similar numbers even using the same report data.

In reference to your question, if you go to https://www.creditchecktotal.com/ you'll see this on the home page:

Credit score calculated based on FICO Score 8 model.

myFICO also provides FICO 8's (along with access to other FICO models). A FICO 8 is a FICO 8. The same model and CRA will produce the same scores if the report data is not significantly different between the dates that the scores were generated. For example, your TU FICO 8 should be the same whether you get it from CCT, myFICO, Discover, Barlcaycard, etc as long as the report data is the same. However, report data isn't static and it does change over time. CCT, Discover and Barlclaycard offer updates on fixed intervals but on different schedules. myFICO's updates are trigger based. That may make it difficult to get scores from them generated close enough to each other for comparison.

CK provides TU and EQ VantageScores. You cannot use a score generated by one model to determine a score generated by an entirely different model. Different models evaluate report data differently and can even have different scoring ranges. Any score is "accurate" but only for its own model. You cannot use a score generated by one model to determine another model's accuracy. Don't rely on CK to determine what your TU or EQ FICO 8's are or for anything other than determining what your VantageScore 3.0's are with TU and EQ.

If you want to know what score a creditor will pull for you then you need to know the model & CRA used and then pull that specific score. You cannot use another score. The catch with that is that not all models are readily avaialble to consumers.

If you're just monitoring your credit and want a metric you can use just about any score out there but you need to look at broader trends versus fixating on specific numbers or a given change from one date to another. FICO 8 may be a better choice just because it's most commonly used but be careful relying on it as you may run into a creditor/product that does not use it. I highly recommend learning to assess your report data versus obsessing over numbers.

These are extremely common topics so don't overlook existing discussions as well as the stickies and the Understanding FICO Scoring subforum.

tl;dr -- CCT's scores are as "accurate" and "reliable" as any other FICO 8 since a FICO 8 is a FICO 8. However, CCT's scores aren't "accurate" or "reliable" if you're looking into any other scoring model than FICO 8. Your VantageScore 3.0's will be different. Your FICO 8 Bankcards (not the same thing as FICO 8) will be different. Your EX FICO 2 will be different. Your TU FICO 4 will be different. Your EQ FICO 5 will be differerent. Etc, etc...

@Anonymous wrote:

CC application reponses are always either really high or really low.

Again, you need to consider the specific model and the CRA versus arbitrarily selecting a given score as baseline. Again, not all models evaluate report data differently so, yes, they can produce numbers that are higher, lower and even similar to FICO 8. FICO 8 is the most commonly used model but not all creditors/products use FICO 8. There are some that use a VantageScore. However, most creditors use one of the FICO models but even FICO has many more than just one model (see also the Understanding FICO Scoring subforum and its stickies).

I really appreciate the response. I honestly have never paid attention to the type of score, just the number itself. I didn't realize there were so many different models... I'll have to keep reading on this board, I'm usually just stuck in the credit cards board. Thanks again!
