Free credit freeze after Equifax hack?

In light of the recent Equifax hack I was wondering whether this was enough to file a police report and request a free credit freeze? In my state it costs $10 every time you freeze, temporarily thaw, or permanently thaw your credit. It seems wrong for me to go seek out their services and pay them money because they screwed up and leaked my info. I'm curious whether this hack is enough to file a police report to use to sign up for free?
