I got 2 FREE credit reports from same CRA on Annual Credit Report in 1 year

I just wanted to provide a datapoint - I pulled my Experian credit report from ACR on January 26, 2018 for the first time. Today (March 18, 2018), I went on ACR and wanted to see how much they would charge if I pulled it again but after entering my basic information, I was able to pull my Experian report AGAIN for free!

I'm too hestiant to try it with the other CRAs because I don't want to give up all of my free reports this year but I wanted to know if anyone out there is having the same luck. I live in California and tried looking up if we get an additional free report but from what I read, ACR only gives one free report per agency per year.

Well, not neccesarily a dispute but Chase did post an incorrect comment on my account and I asked them to take the comment off of all the CRAs and they did - not sure if that counts as a dispute or not, but no direct disputes with the CRA.

NEVERMIND. I SEE YOU ALREADY CHECKED CA STATE LAW. I DIDNT NOTICE THAT INITIALLY.

Might be a law in your state that allows consumers to pull twice per year. I live in Jersey and I can pull all 3 twice per year due to state law.

Yes from what I saw, California only provides 1 free report per CRA.

I asked about prior disputes because the recent consent agreement between the CRAs and 31 states (office of the AG) includes the following provision relating to an additional free annual report via annualcreditreport.com:

" Additional Free Annual Credit Report to Consumers Following Reinvestigation
The CRAs shall implement a process by which consumers who initiate a dispute
of information contained in their free annual credit report disclosure are granted the
ability to request one additional free annual credit report disclosure—as authorized by the
FCRA, 15 U.S.C. § 1681j(a) during the twelve-month period following a change to the
consumer's file as requested by the consumer in the dispute. This additional free annual
credit report disclosure shall be in addition to and shall not diminish any other right of a
consumer to request and obtain a free credit report disclosure from any of the CRAs."

Since the side topic came up of which states offer extra free credit reports, those are Colorado, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Vermont.

My experience has been that ACR still does not give you the extra one -- I think you have to go directly to the CRA for it.

Being in one of the "Magnificent Seven" states was a big advantage back in the day when ACR was the only way to get free reports. Today people are tripping over free reports, so the advantage is minimal now.
