Good luck to you. I had a similar situation with Wells Fargo pulling twice the same day for the same thing. They were unresponsive about removing the extra inquiry. However, that doesn't mean you can't make it happen. Let us know what happens.

Hello Everyone, I am not sure if I am in the right topic area so please forgive me if it's not but I have a quick question.

I have a Verizon account and was moving to a different state, I called Verizon and let them know I was moving the rep went over the packages at which point I told him I want the same package I have now. He was able to see what package I had and set up the same package. Well the next day I get an alert that a credit inquiry was done by Verizon. I called them and spoke with a rep and she stated that she sees I have a both accounts and didn't understand why he did a credit inquiry instead of setting it up as a move. So does anyone know how I can go about getting this inquiry removed? When I spoke to Verizon they pretty much said it's a done deal and nothing they can do.

Thank you in advance.

What credit monitoring service (CMS) are you using to track your reports and scores? Does it give you FICO 8 scores? (Credit Karma is one example of many of a CMS who's scores are not by FICO.)

If your scores are decent you may just want to ignore it. The inquiry will stop having any scoring impact in a year. And even now it is only affecting one bureau and even there at most 5 points.

The Verizon rep is correct that it is a challenge to get inquiries removed. In theory Verizon could recode it as a soft pull but almost no reps know how to do that and it will take lots of time on the phone to get it done (if you do get lucky enough to have it done).

And don't worry about them.

However, if it was done by accident, or if it didn't need to be done, then fight to have it removed based on principle. 5 points is five points. It's one IF thing you applied for a credit product and knew you would sustain a HP.

Email and snail mail the Executive Office of Verizon and tell them the story. If that don't work, submitt a complaint to the BBB, and then the CFPB.

I am speaking from experience. I got a few inquiries removed exactly the way I just told you with 100% success. Because I should have never of got them in my circumstances.

I recently had a double inquiry from my CU for a CLI, called them and filled out papers as well as sent a copy of the 2 pulls. Got an email stating they were sorry, and would look into it. Still no action yet, though it's only been a monthish. No harm in trying I guess, and great if tehy do. But damage is already done and as people have said, stop being an issue over time.

The question for you is, is it worth you time to try and get it removed? If Verizen said done is done, then it may be more difficult than a simple solution.

Just call Transunion at Tel.: 1 (800) 916-8800 and tell them it was an unauthorized hard inquiry and they’ll remove it. Transunion and Experian (Tel.:1 (866) 617-1894) are very understanding and will delete unauthorized inquiries. Equifax will not, unless you submit a Police Report. Equifax is impossible to deal with.

Try to contact the bureau in question that shows the unauthorized HP to have it removed. You should also be able to dispute it online. It will be tough and take time, but if you never authorized it, it should be removed from your CR. The effects on your score are minimal, but you should still seek to get it removed if you never agreed to it.

They had the right to do an inquiry under the permissible purpose of an internal account review.

The FCRA requires that every inquiry provide either a stated permissible purpose, which is one or more of the provisions of section 604, or else a showing of express authorization by the consumer for the inquiry.

If they reported the proper permissible purpose, the CRAs provide a separate code for account reviews that is always considered as soft.

I would contact them and request that they code the inquiry with the proper code for an internal account review, and that will automaticially remove it from your credit reports that are provided to others.
