Need some help medical collection please advise

My daughter is under my health insurance . She had shoulder issues that began when she was a minor, she had surgery right after she turned 18. I am pretty sure I paid this bill as the bills always came to me with her listed as patient.

She applied for a student card and was denied we pulled her free equifax and there is a collection on her report. I will call in morning to inquire to see if that in fact wasn't paid but I am pretty sure I paid it. This doesn't appear on mine.

What can I do she should not get dinged for this I am responsible for her medical insurance and bills? She shouldn't start out with ruined credit I feel awful if this isn't paid

Now if I owe this I will gladly pay it but don't want her punished .

Advice needed please.

Do call as you stated. If anything is in fact owed, not paid by insurance, the best is to try for a pay for delete. Plead she was a student, under your medical insurance, responsible for co-pays, co-insurance. Gladly will take care of bill in full, with preferably written agreement (can be email) that they will remove it from all 3 reporting bureaus. Good luck!

Ok I called today they said they would not delete just marked as paid I tried my darnest to explain things because even though she was 18 when surgery was done, I know we had started this journey was she was 17 ( injections PT) and decided prior to her 18th BD to so the surgery as I recall I signed alot of paperwork in regards to this, not sure if I can get my hands on it or not.

I feel absolutely terrible that I neglected this bill and she should not be punished before she even starts out

The only good note is I had a medical collection a while back same company and I paid it when I saw on report the lady said they would report as "paid" I disputed it was deleted, so I am hoping to do the same with this. I paid this morning and immediately disputed it "stating this was my mother's responsibilty under her insurance and it is paid" in her words. If that doesn't work will move on to the minor aspect.

Anybody suggest anything else I can do?? I don't want this hurting her over my stupidness

Is the bill a fairly small amount or well into $1000+

You remarked about her turning 18 and a student card, so I'm thinking it has not been several years ago. Can you contact your insurance company that pay before the co-pays, stating she was covered under your plan and if you can obtain her record (or she can obtain them) showing the part: Responsible Party.

Who is the collection agency?

Did you pay even though they stated will not pay for delete (possible losing leverage) or have not as of this point?

The amount is 320.00, The agency is credit control Corporation out of Newport News, VA they collect for Sentara medical billing.

I realize I lost leverage paying, I just wanted to pay what I owe given they had it in her name. I have gotten tons of bills from Sentara and them over the past year and have paid them over 1000 so I think I just let this one slip by. I had 2 other collections pop up last year on my reports from them (daughters bills), I immediately paid them and disputed them and they were removed within days . I am hoping and praying that the same thing will happen with her reports.

I am going try and contact my insurance company and see if they can help. I realize she was 18 when the surgery was performed so techinically they can bill her, but my goodness it is my insurance and I am repsonsible for her and her medical bills and this began when she was 17 with her shoulder, heck she was still in high school. Not sure what else I can try I mean I know the bill is legit . heck they can take it off hers and put it on mine!!! I don't want her credit damaged because of me.

I would do my best to attempt to get the debt paid via insurance.

The new CRA policy is that a medical collection, if shown to have been paid by insurance, will be deleted from your credit report.

Thank you. Unfortunately I believe this was part of the bill that was not paid by my insurance, we hadn't reached our deductible. I just pulled up our claims this is scary, they were several bills for her physical therapy that we NEVER received, this is a giant mess. I am going to have to call Sentara and find out what bills are what, what I have paid what is owed and what bill the collection agency collected for grrrr.

But I am hoping that this account which is the only one on her report comes off from our disputes.

Thank you. I just pray the others do the same, I have had a previous collection with this company in the past and they deleted as soon as I paid so I am hoping they do the same here.

You may very well get them deleted, or you may not it's the luck of draw really.

As far as it being on your DD reports that is the correct place for it to be if as you say the surgery ( the debt) was after she became 18. Once she is 18 then she is responsible for her medical bills. The fact that it is on your insurance dosen't matter. If you are paying her medical bills for her since she is a student then good for you. but legally she is one who is responsible. I pay my 18 yr old daughter's medical bills as she lives with me and will be going to college in the fall, my 23 yr old son is still on my insurance but he pays his own medical bills as he lives on his own. How you handle it with your children is a personal decison, but legally once they are 18 they are an adult and responsible for the bills.

Thanks I realize she is 18 and was legally responsible however ZERO bills were sent in her name they all came to me . I just got a hold of all the claims notices on my insurance and the amounts I paid to the hospital and then the collection agency do not add up .The amounts I paid out to what was owed are drastically different , so I believe I paid out on some of these bills to both. I am going to get itemized bills from hospital and see exactly what I paid to them in comparison to what I paid to collection agency.

I am going to wait for the other 2 disputes to be completed and then proceed from there. There was a MAJOR billing breech with Sentara (I actually work for them) and they were billing incorrectly and also sent bills with charges etc to the wrong patients major hippa violations. It was a huge mess and I think a lot of these billing errors are resulting in quite a few deletions on reports from what I have gathered. I had 2 previous collections from them (her bill) and all where deleted after payment. But I know it could go either way this go round but have a feeling the others will delete.

So I will wait to see how disputes go and then tackle that angle. I will tackle after conclusion anyway because I think I overpaid.

Having paid/overpaid would give you the strongest case to get them removed. And if you can prove you overpaid you should get a refund.

You could always dispute the account. I did this with a handfull of paid collections, and they all were removed.

In my experience, collection agencies tend not to respond to disputes. If they do not reply within 30 days, the account will be removed from the report. When asked why, state that "You are no longer liable for this account". Again this is my experience, it may not work for you, but it won't hurt to try.

Thanks. Yes I have been around the block or two with disputes lol. TU deleted almost immediately which I was quite surprised at but very pleased. The other 2 I am still waiting on, if I am not successful I have a few other avenues for another dispute, I am relentless to say the least , especially since this is my daughter and it needs to be removed.

Update.According to CK it has been updated to paid in full and closed on EQ. Her "score" went up 5I points. So I will try to dispute again and try to get it removed completely, still waiting on EXP but thinking it will be the same results.

So off TU. I will try my darnest to get it off the other 2.

I just went through this the score jump is from the overall debt being paid down the collection still showing even at paid zero balance will still keep your score down unless removed. Also CK vs a real FICO score were significantly different obviously. When my collections went to paid zero balance CK showed a +65 point jump however FICO only reported a +20 point jump because of how each weighs the collection being listed. Currently waiting for the CA to remove a collection
from my report as the original creditor that I paid has requested them to do.

Update. It has been removed from EXP Two out of three isn't bad on the first go round. I will dispute again and see if I can get it off of EQ which of course is the one most pull it seams.

Congrats hopefully EQ will clear up and you will have a clean report.
