I am curious. I have read that some people have waited a long time on the phone to cancel CCT and others cancel by email. Just when is the best time to cancel to ensure you don't get charged and what is the best way to go about it? Just how hard is it to cancel CCTs free trial?

Or, if you need to push back your 2nd 3-bureau a couple of days more, just cancel the day before you are scheduled to have your card charged. For instance, I was scheduled for 8/12/2018 charge, got my 2nd report today, and cancelled online. I instantly got email confirmation:

Your membership has ended.

Hello James_A,

This email confirms your membership cancellation. From here on out, you won't see any membership activity or fees on your credit card.

You can still access your Experian® Credit Report for FREE.

Follow these easy steps:

Get started now
Simply click here or follow the green button below.

Create a new account
No credit card required and no hidden fees.
Or you can just cancel via phone any time within the trial period, it took me 3 mins 2 days ago, without having to deal with timeline of the 2nd pull vs risk missing the cancellation deadline.

I believe the hardened CCT users also use as a "safety net" approach making all CCT trial subscriptions with a disposable VISA or MC that they purchase at the grocery store. They make sure it has under the total monthly cost of a subscription on it.

Note too that the second pull at day 7-9 is purely optional. If it feels like a headache to remember, just scrap it. After all, getting a 3B report and three FICO 8 scores at a time of your choosing all for $1 is a pretty amazing deal. For many people, the probability that something significant has changed in 7 days is low -- and if it has, then you may not be using free credit report tools like Karma properly.

CGID, I actually find the 2nd pull to be extremely valuable in determining and isolate the effects of certain actions if timed precisely, first pull before apping and the 2nd pull tells you exactly how the new inquiry hit you, same with new accounts reporting, UTI increase/decrease (all my accounts are synchronized to cut within 4-5 days), AZEO vs otherwise...etc.

Right. But you have joined the ranks of the myFICO scoring theorists. (You, BBS, and others.) I have long advocated that people who are trying to do precise testing of the FICO 8 model use CCT exactly as you suggested.

In fact BBS will tell you that I was driven crazy a year or two ago when there was a long thread involving people submitting their "data" regarding a particular conjecture about FICO 8. (Specifically whether cards with a ginormous credit limit were dropped from utilization consideration -- e.g. when the CL went from 34 to 50k, say). I kept walking people through how to create a crisp painless test using CCT and, like Casandra, everything I said fell on deaf ears. The thread eventually ended up being easily over 100 posts -- far longer maybe -- when it could have been definitively settled in 3-4 with a proper use of CCT and a properly executed test.

What I was pointing out here in this thread is that a lot of beginners don't care about that stuff. They just want to grab their three scores, hopefully after they have gotten their reports into decent shape.

My scores have been in constant flux as I've added accounts, paid down balances, had inquiries, removed derogs. I've been, and remain, curious to learn how significantly various events impact my score. While my overall scores have risen rather sharply, it hasn't been a straight line ascent. Some up, some down, some more up.

CCT has been an invaluable tool in my education, as has been my free month's trial with one of Experian's other products that gives me fresh daily EX scores. I'd have been totally lost if required to rely on the likes of CK or WH.

Very true that the second pull that you get with a CCT $1 trial is purely optional. For probably 90% of those that do a trial, all they are looking for is their scores/reports just 1 time. The second pull for the majority out there will look exactly like the first pull, so for them it isn't a concern.

For us hardcores that have ever-changing profiles, or if we're doing a ton of testing, those second pulls are gold. Last month I did a test in going from 1 of 8 to 8 of 8 revolvers with balances reported. Thanks to strategic CCT $1 trials and well-timed second pulls, I was able to grab all data points along the way. I'm in the process now of backing my way back down (I'm at 6 of 8) to double-check my initial data before reporting the results, so again I'm taking big advantage of the 2 pulls that you are able to use with each CCT trial.
