Verizon Fios - New Service Credit Check Question

Hi all,

I've been approved for my mortgage and I'm closing next week for my new home.

I just ordered Verizon Fios online and it was asking me to enter my social security # which I did not, instead I chose to pay a $125 deposit to skip that step.

Now I searched on the internet and read a lot of posts complaining about Verizon pulling people's credit report without their consent.

I'm starting to worry since I'm closing soon and I'm not supposed to do anything with my credit until then.

Does anyone have experience with that at all?

I ordered the service online at 2pm EST. I checked CreditKarma at 4pm and still no inquiries.

So am I safe?

Or if it shows up tomorrow, what should I do? Can I request for the inquiry to be removed since I never authorized it?

I never even entered my social security number.

Please help... I'm super nervous right now because this mortgage was really hard to get...

IMO - worst case if an INQ does show up I don't think it would be an issue with the lender because it is a utility INQ and they would know that.

That being said I don't think you'll see an INQ because you simply put a deposit.

I really hope not. That was the reason why I chose to pay the security deposit.

I'm afraid to even transfer the rest of the utility bills right now. I'll just wait until closing for the other ones.

It's typical now for utilities, internet and phone co to do a hard pull. It's not unusual for people to end up with a few during the process of buying and moving into a home. Banks and mortgage lenders will understand this and won't be concerned.

I emailed my LO and she told me to hold off on transferring the rest of the utilities.

She's afraid that my credit score will drop and that might cause a problem at closing.

I forgot to add that simply having or a business relationship with Verizon is considered a permissible purposes. Disputing the HP would not result in its removal. Also having a dispute during the mortgage process may actually cause problems.

I'm sure you realize now but don't do anything until you have the house key in hand. We had another poster few weeks ago complaining about getting an HP after only providing DL but not SS to a phone company, hopefully that is not the case here.

I can definitely appreciate not wanting a HP if scores are borderline. Sounds like your just playing it safe.

I know not to do anything with credit until closing, that was the reason why I chose to pay the deposit.

Then come to find out Verizon has a history of HPs and now I'm just crossing our fingers and hope that it won't affect us.

My husband and I both have scores at around 800 so hopefully that 1 HP (if it happens) won't cause too many points.

If your scores are indeed in the 800 range than set your mind at ease. A hard pull won't ding your score enough to matter. Banks are concerned with HPs resulting in new debt (just don't go finance a 4k TV or new bedroom set). It's not the HP but the result they are concerned with.

+1000 You're well past the point where a HP will hurt you, and it's Verizon - your mortgage lender knows that you're not taking out a new line of credit in the fine print where you'd enter your SSN. They do state that you are giving them permission to pull your credit. When FiOS finally came to the city of Boston last year (suburbs have been wired for years) I got an EQ pull myself. Congrats on the house!

I guess the whole mortgage process was so intense that it's been stressing me out to the max.

I just didn't want anything to affect my closing next week. *crossing my fingers*

FIOS is SO much better than Comcast IMO, normally I don't mind the HP at all, just not now..
