Fraud alert removal

First post but i have been lurking for awhile now soaking up the immense knowledge of these boards. I just wanted to share my experience with removing fraud alerts from all three CRA. Transunion was first, they were the easy one. A simple phone call, a few questions and representative said the alert will be ~~removed instantly~~(called back the following day to make sure it was removed and tho they could not see the fraud alert on my file the representative told me it would take 24-48 hours from the time it is removed on their end to show up as removed). As far as Experian goes, I crafted a simple fraud alert removal letter, scanned my DL and passport along with a bank statement an uploaded via their website. I will keep this thread updated on progress.(Checked credit report on 10/25/18, fraud alert removed) For Equifax i used the same fraud alert removal letter with the same documents and sent online certified mail. Again, I will update as information becomes available.(Called Equifax on 10/25/18, representative looked at file and stated fraud alert was still on because clarity of documents submitted was hard to read. He verified my identity through a series of credit file related questions and removed the fraud alert) I want to thank the thousands of members who on a daily basis share their experiences and knowledge on these boards, there's no way in hell i could be where I'm at in this process of improving my credit without you!!!!!!!

As of today, 10/25/18 all fraud alerts have been removed from my files!!!! Also, don't forget to opt in after removing fraud alerts if you would like to continue to receive offers!!!!

I am dealing with a fraud alert now. Its like a game of telephone. I never requested the alert. All 3 CRA are insisting that I did. Are speaking to several ESL supervisors I think I traced it to a TU dispute. I disputed something on TU and they placed a Fraud Alert without my permission. Then they sent notices to the other two that I requested a FA and that's how it got on EX and EQ

From reading several sites it looks like the CRA can place Fraud Alerts on your file if you dispute something in a certain way and its perfectly legal. I'm fine with that except for the fact that they keep insisting that I requested it and they "cannot place a fraud alert without your permission" (which is not true)

I had the same issue with EQ putting an *extended* fraud alert on my file (the 7 years, "I thought you had to have a police report or something" awesome one). I sent letters to all three CRAs, and they removed it. Then TU popped it back on. A simple phone call rectified that. EX then turned around and put on on for one year after all of that, and I decided to just let it stay.

I think that after the breach, EQ has just been... a little 'enthusiastic' about fraud/security.
