Hello everyone,

My question is as follows:

I was (or rather am) an authorized user on two of my Mother's Chase cards. Recently (without me knowing) she decided to completely max them out and stop payment on them. I was able to get my first credit report only a couple of weeks ago (due to a lack of credit history, I am now on my own) and saw that both of these cards are 120 days past due, and that the balance shows up on my report. I realize that I am legally not liable for the balance, however, it still shows up on my report, as well as damaging my credit by increasing my late payment percentage.

I called up Chase and I was told that they (chase) could not remove me as an authorized user until the balance has been paid off. I am no longer in contact with my mother so getting her to remove me is not an option either. What should I do here? These cards that I was an authorized user on are damaging my credit quite badly now (I have 3 cards in my name, all paid off with no late payments)

Thank you

Try again to escalate the issue with Chase. Ask for a supervisor, etc.

That failing, you'll have to dispute the accounts at each of the bureaus. You could use: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action

Go through there and use the tools on each agency's site to dispute the AU accounts. In some cases you may have to send a physical letter to the bureaus with the removal demand.

Note that it could take a month or two for them to disappear from your reports.

Thank you for the quick response, I'll send Chase a letter and if that doesn't work I'll go through the credit bureaus

Thank you for the welcome. A quick update:

I went through the transunion online disputes and it was removed from my account within a few days. Thank you for the help
