AMEX AU removal - closed or disappear from CR?

So... Before I read a thread telling me not to do what I was about to do, I had my DW add me to her Amex as an AU, thinking it would do as so many others and give me a nice AAOA bump. That was back in January or so... before I started reading this forum.

It didn’t... needless to say... as Amex reports it as a new account opened the day you are added, unlike Cap1 and others that shows the account as opened whenever the original account was opened.

So here’s the stupid question: If she removes me as an AU, will the amex account show *CLOSED* or will it disappear altogether? If it disappeared, I’d be happy, as it is negatively affecting my average age of accounts. Not by too much, mind you, I’ve opened so many accounts in the last few months, but slightly affecting, yes. If it showed as closed, I’d be unhappy... might as well keep it open.

Thoughts/experiences from the peanut gallery?

When I removed myself from one of Dh's AMEX, TU still has but status is terminated while EQ removed completely.

IIRC from prior posts an AMEX AU does stay on post closure but some bureaus may remove it.

YMMV as to whether it stays once you’re removed as an AU, if you do nothing. However, you can remove it if you want to by disputing it as “not my account” after you have been removed as an AU.

I can speak from recent experience, that it does stay on your reports as closed "relationship terminated", but in good standing though.
