Okay here is the problem I have a unpaid civil judgment on file for me from 5-14-01 I am trying to clean up my credit and possibly get a mortgage. I know that I will not get a mortgage with a judgment on my file. If i pay this judgment in full will a mortgage company or bank still see it as a negative if it is paid and 6 years old.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

I recently puchased a home in December and I was preappoved for the mortgage, however the mortgage company INSISTED I PAY THE JUDGEMENT IN FULL. So as long as you pay the judgement before you go to closing you should be fine. My judgement was from 2001 as well, hope this helps.

The thing that makes it less negative is that it stops being updated regularly. The longer a negative item goes without updating, the more positive the result. Paying off a lilen or judgement in and of itself will not improve your sore. It is still considered by the FICO scoring model as far as likelihood of repayment. Once paid off it will never update again and having less and less effect on your sore.

Some Mortgage companies are satisfied with it being paid off as long as your have 1-2 yrs of good pymnt history.

Thanks for the replies ...... Here is how it worked out for me I don't know how it will effect my score yet but I am hoping for the best . I contacted the company that filed the judgment they won the judgment by default because I was never served and they filed after Sol was up so I bargained a lit bit gave them a settlement offer and requested that they vacate the judgment after payment or.... i would get a attorney file for a motion to vacate and pay nothing they agreed to payment and they will vacate the judgment I don't know how will affect me after that but I will let you know ...... Thanks for the help

I had a small claims case public record on my bureaus. I paid it off the day I went to court. A few months later I disputed, and *poof*.... just like that it was non-existent, gone from my reports. Of course, it probably depends on where you live. I'm aware I was lucky. Worth a try though. Picture some guy sitting miserably in a cubicle somewhere, working for the county court, rifling through piles of mail. He opens your request for verification, but he'd rather take his 15, eat a donut and have a smoke. Subsequently, it is not verified and it goes away. After all, it is not concerning a currently relevant business matter so on the scale of importance it falls to about a zero. Again, much of it is timing and luck. I can only say that I have cleaned up probably 2 dozen items this way, on collection accounts as well as judgments that I have paid but still continued to hang around like a lazy uncle.

I have a paid judgement on my credit report and the same on my husbands. Since it is paid can I have it removed. We did not go to court and were not served that I am aware of. It is with Wells fargo (long story). If you could help me get this removed (if possible) I would be greatful.
