Debt Collection doesn't appear on credit score - if I pay it off, will it appear?

I have a debt collection from 6 years ago that does not appear on my credit report. It's from paypal and a debt of $40. I would like to pay it since I cannot access paypal anymore, but I'm worried that if I pay it it will show up on my credit report somehow. I have pretty great credit now and that would be a considerable ding if that happened.

Does anyone know if paying it off would cause it to appear on my report somehow? Thanks.

It can be reported for up to 7.5 yrs from the DoFD. I would make a deal to pay them in exchange for it NOT reporting.
