Not sure if this is the right place for this topic. But after seeing the different "Memeber Since" dates across all my Amex cards, i got to wondering the method used. I know that their core cards pretty much the same. But I had heard their co-branded cards are different, and in my case some are.

1st CC: BCE July 17, all my other core Amex cards also use this date. But I have noticed that my two Biz cards also use the 17 date, the BBP I can see as it's Amex. However the Marriott Bonvoy(SPG) also says 17, whereas my Delta Gold says 18. I assumed that since I apped the Bonvoy in April of this year, that it would say memeber since 19 on it.

Just sparked my curiosity, thinking that SPG was probably just a glitch. Which had me wondering what would happen if I closed out the Delta Gold, and apped for Blue. Would the Delta Blue now say Memeber Since 19? Or is it based on the year you apply to that family of cards?

Anyone else have something similar happen?

Amex uses the year you became a member consistently across all the cards they issue. However, sometimes the system does not recognize that you are an existing member and will issue a card with the Member Since date shown as the year you applied for that card rather than the year you became an Amex member. If the variance in date Member Since dates bothers you, hop on chat or call and they will reissue the card with the corrected year.

They are very proactive about the member since being the same and correct on all cards.

They changed with out asking my member since date to a much older date. It is still not my oldest date as that goes with an abacus.

Amex and I have have a very wierd relationship. First time I cancelled card because of id issues. Some one had the card number but not the card and was using it in my city. I even changed card # and it still happened. Second time I used to travel alot for work and would reserve my room with amex and go to check in and card would be declined. I would call and they would fix it again and all would be well for a few months. This time it has been over 2 years and everythng works fine.

My experience is the same as others have reported... if I apply for a new card while logged in it will come with my old 1995 MSD, but if I apply any other way (including incognito) the new card will come with the current year, but when the card expires (or is reported lost/worn) the replacement will have the 1995 MSD.

Now that backdating is dead (R.I.P.) and most of the time the customer swipes/dips the card themselves it's really a non-issue, anyway.

That's weird, the only card i apped for incogneto was the ED. Which has my accurate MSD. The only oddball is Delta Gold, which was apped the same time a the PRG. Yet the PRG came with my accurate MSD.

As for backdating, does that mean if I closed all my accounts today. Then reapplied later in the year or even next, they wouldn't use my previous 2017 MSD?
