If you have the app, it shows you closing right at the top of transactions. Closing is the date that your total balance will report and thereafter a statement will follow. I would not purchase until after new statement cuts. I hope this helps.

Just trying to figure out timing so it's not showing high usage when reporting and accidentally pull down my credit score. Have had the card one month and not used it yet.

Hank yOu, but I'm trying to figure out when they report. Right now balance is zero. But let's say I charge 1k, I don't want to have that reported as my balance before I pay it off.... assuming pay before due, etc, not carry a balance.

Amex usually takes a couple of statements to start reporting, so you have a bit of a window before you have to start worrying about util on the card having a scoring impact.

Typically, you need to use a card to get a statement.

As others have said, Amex is typically one month/statement behind. Your statement balance is what will get reported, and it will get reported probably a few days after the statement cuts. As long as you pay the purchase off before your statement cut date, your utilization won't be a problem.

Good luck!

Amex makes it pretty clear if you ever forget when your statement cut date is. Most of the time, I use the mobile phone to log in so that's what I'm going to show in the following pics.

When you log in through your mobile:

1) At the home screen select the statements icon at the very bottom

2) Select transactions and statements

3) The closing date is shown

Yes, Amex is great at notifying you if you opt into text & email alerts.

I usually pay my Amex before the due date as Amex gets "noisy" about upcoming payment due...

They call it "weekly snapshot"

If your account is so new that no statement date is showing online, you can use the Chat Feature (as I did) or call and ask when your official statement close date will be. You'll see here this new account isn't showing a date yet but I called and asked so now I know. After that timeframe of about the 2nd statement as mentioned upthread, they are quick to report the statement balance usually within 48 hours of the statement closing.
