I was contacted by a collection agency about a debt they had for me in their office. It was the first time I had spoken to them as they had the wrong number. They informed me that on April 1st they reported it to Transunion the debt was for $30. I took care of the debt yesterday. When checking my credit report it does not show up as of April 16th. How long does it typically take to show up?

It could take up to 30-60 days, but they also may have been bluffing, or they may have pulled their reporting since you paid.

Beware of any debt collectors - they may just be trying to scam you - so check before you pay!

I have received so many "bluff" collection notices over time that it's funny - stuff that was way past the statute of limitations - they still try to scare you into paying a portion.

When I call them on their bluff, they back down very quickly noting how long ago that debt was....
