I got myself in a mess and feel I have no other options. I'm totally blind and it is nearly impossible to get a job where I am. I have a small bit of cash to get a cheap $30-40k place and not end up homeless. My actual question is this... if I pay down NFCU to owe like $15k, CO to $10k, $3-4k both to Citi and PenFed... if I pay what I owe to these amounts, then will they legally pursue me? :,(

So sorry to hear about your dilemma. But I can vouch for NFCU giving you some reprieve. Give them a call and ask about debt assistance with your NFCU debt.

I'm sorry you're in such a dilemma.

If you could afford to, I would advise you to get on some sort of payment plan with all those entities, so they wouldn't pursue you.

I don't know enough about these entities to be able to tell you whether they would pursue you or not if you bought your debt down to the levels you stated.

Hopefully, someone else will chime in with my specific advice.

Sorry about the hardball thrown at ya. If you could list the accounts as:

Creditor Name/Credit Line/ Balance/ APR. We can give you a plan to get the most out of what you have to work with for now.

First, get the place and put a roof over your head. You will sleep better, been homeless it sucks. Then take stock. At that point, call and see if you can get any help on lower payments. If not, so be it.

Disability checks can't be garnished, so I would think they would make some kind of a deal.

But first get a home, that is a game changer for you. Also, look into what you may be able to do online. Had a blind friend who coded computers, so you may find something that you can do.

So sorry to hear about the unfortunate situation you are currently dealing with. With a hard emphasis on the word currently. I agree with what was mentioned above. Secure that roof over your head first and foremost! If you don't have this amount of security in your life, you are most certain to fail in other aspects. Even if it's a cheap studio flat apartment for a year while you get things in order. This will allow you to free up the mental capacity to focus on other important things in your life. Most humans by nature cannot successfully deal with the 2 situations in unison.

Think small. You sound like you feel overwhelmed, but not as bad off as you think.

You said you have a decent amount of cash savings and I only see a small part of the story here.

Typically most creditors will help you with lowering payments during a rough time, allowing you to keep the savings in the bank.

There's a lot not said, like what are your current (if any) housing costs? An inexpensive RV and space rent may be a better option until you get back on your feet letting you keep that savings aside until you do.
