Mine have always been instant. They say credit freezes can take a little time to show as thawed versus credit locks, but I have never had a delay.

I'm going to disagree wildly withe the previous 2 replies. I've had issues applying within 48 hours of unfreezing. I tend to unfreeze for 5 days...apply on the 3rd. I've had multiple denails due to frozen reports within 48 hours of 'unfreezing'...most recently with Sync Paypal MC. While it may be instant for some I wouldn't assume that's the case.

I've always frozen/unfrozen my report(s) via each bureaus own website...not a third party site. I don't even know if it can be done via a third pary site. Anyways, after I receive a confirmation email that the requested action had been processed, I never had any problems. So it could be instant or may take a few hours, but my advice is wait until you receive confirmation.

I also don't think that it is possible with any third party site, but it would be interesting (especially for the smaller bureaus).

In my experience the unfreeze & lifting actions are being executed within ~5min.

I unfreeze my reports on the individual sites literally minutes before applying and have never had a problem. I do the "temporary lift" and set it to automatically freeze within 24-48 hours. Never a single issue within 6 years.

This is how I do it since learning 😳 about credit freeze and 🔐 lock. I travel most days of the week during work.. It also has helped to keep me from applying so many times. I keep the information needed to unfreeze each bureau at home, on paper. It makes so that I have to spend time considering if a credit app is worth going back home and then removing the freeze. Otherwise I probably would have an additional 6-7 credit cards plus a few more inquiries for mortgages or auto loan prequals. SMH 🙃😁
