In your case if you have cash just charge it and pay card off unless you want 1200ish going towards a sub then open a new card buy phone and collect sub and if 0% carry balance if you so choose otherwise just collect sub and pay it off. I have VZW and whenever I do an upgrade no credit pull is done and suspect that is case with VZ,ATT,T-MOBILE. In your scenario of no contract that is what has changed.

Also to add if you have iphone 13 or greater don't bother upgrading as just burning money. This was likely the most disappointing "upgrade" I have ever seen. I don't see AAPLE making record sales this year with lack luster new offering.

Just so you know, going from MetroPCS -> Tmobile is a migration, not a normal port/new account. I think they don't do a HP for new accounts these days regardless. That might be worth exploring just for the savings on paying taxes/fees on Magenta, but you should do the research on that.

As for the Apple card rules change, they did announce that a while ago & it is indeed unfortunate. Though, I have heard of people getting around it by 'activating' it on someone else's account, then reconfiguring the eSIM provisioning afterwards. A bit messy, but an option. Only thing I'm unsure of—does the iPhone adopt Apple's Flex policy & lock to the carrier you activate it on? Or is it an unlocked SKU that is processed as a one time payment activation.

Hopefully some of that helps. Good luck in your endeavors.

I have the I phone 8 which I bought back in 2017 it is time for a new phone the battery is giving out. I am not happy with apple gs for crap I almost never use card any way I have much better card in my wallet. I will put charge on my Us cash plus card it will give me 5%, apple only gives 3% or I may hold off for another year. I want all of my inquires to drop off befor I open any new accounts. Yes I understand that hard pull is not done if you all ready have account with one of 3 big carriers. I do not want to give up my Metro pcs I only pay 40 dollars per month and it includes all taxs and I have 10 g data plan.

You are right it does sucks the apple is nothing to write home about, as I said I have much better cards in my wallet. GS must be losing big time with apple card this not going to help Apple. You can buy all other apple products with intrest free plan but not phones does not make any sence. How does Gs lose so much money on cred card operation. Just go back and read bunch of my post from 2019 when that GS does not know how to operate credit card company they got in over ther heads with this one.

The question I have is why is Apple and gs doing this is because GS is losing money on Apple credit card, I think this bad move on apple's part, I would like to up grade my phone from I phone 8 to anewer phone, but it looks like I will hold to next year before I do phone up grade.

As a blind person the I phone is great phone the operation makes it easy to use voice works like charm that is why I stay with Apple but this kind of bs just makes meed mad. First thing I would have no problem with credit approval for a new service as I said before I don't want a hard pull why can't Gs let carrier know that you have good credit and you make payments on time. I like the older connector better, does any know if USB C connector can go in eather way.

So I have done a ton of reading on this very subject. There are a ton of post on Reddit pertaining to this predicament. What I have found is that if you purchase the phone through Apple and choose the T-Mobile carrier you are not required to input any account information. Some are saying that this is a way to bypass the carrier requirement that Apple has established. They are saying that the phones will be shipping "unlocked" and that when setting up the phone for the first time that you can attempt the carrier information screen 3 times and then it will allow you to bypass it and activate the phone with any carrier. Of course all this is conjecture and cannot be proven until the phones arrive this Friday (22nd) to actually attempt the activation process.

I was debating on upgrading but think I will hold off until next year as I would have to pay off my phone (around $400) to upgrade and receive the $1000 credit towards the new iPhone 15 Pro with AT&T (currently have the iPhone 13 Pro). I don't see myself paying almost $400 and losing my promotional credits (only pay a extra $4 a month towards phone payoff and have 13 more payments to go). They are my current carrier and I don't have any plans to switch carriers as I am very pleased with their service.

Very interesting topic on the Apple card, I switched from Android over to iPhone 6 back in the day and the Apple card would have worked back then, today not so much.

I always thought the Apple card wasn’t great and now I am glad I didn’t bother, especially with the phones just losing so much value over a year.

I currently have the iPhone 13 and 13 pro, I was lucky to sell the iPhone 13 for $500 but at a loss of $387....The iPhone 13 pro can be a trade for trade for the iPhone 15 pro. To put these on the Apple card, in my op would just be at a loss....

PS All carriers are shady on how they give you iPhone credits for that new iPhone, Verizon being the worst to T-Mobile being less restrictive…

Ther is a 35 dollar set up fee and they are running about 60 per month with tax. spectrum mobile will finance the phone for 36 months and ther service about 30 dollars per months with 30 g of data. Only you need to buy at one of spectrum's stores or on line from them. apple has sq this one big time.
