Hello all,

Ive been using Credit Karma for quite some time to watch my credit score. I have racked up quite a bit of cc debt which I am now aggressively paying down ($17k paid in November) and $60k to go. Credit Karma has me me depressed about my credit score for a while because it has me down at $

580. I decided to sign up for MyFico and I am quite surprised it has me in the 690's for a 3 scores. I don't know what to believe now. Which one is more accurate? Thank you.

Credit Karma is without question the biggest spreader of credit misinformation out there. The amount of people mislead and manipulated by CK is substantial.

As already correctly pointed out by others, the scores they provide are nearly irrelevant VS3 and not FICO.

As others stated, MyFico uses FICO 8, CK uses Vantage 3.0

Personally I like tracking both. Not really the number but the changes and fluctuations over time.

when people say score, like 600s or 700 or 740, the FICO score is more relevant.

my CK is opposite it's a lot higher than my FICO. I'm af FICO 8 690-710, yet CK tells me 710-760 and it fluctuates a lot so CK is giving me a false impression of my score, thinking I'm in a great category while most lenders aren't thinking the same thing.

I agree with the other commenter, whatever motivates you more.

PS here are the free FICO 8 scores:

Experian - Experian Website Free Plan

Equifax - MyFico Free Plan

Transunion - Various Credit cards such as Discover/Capital One

You should see greater point gains on VS3 as your debt is paid down. From that perspective continue to monitor it as a motivator.

You got it.

The score is the initial interview opportunity. It's what's below it in which gets you the job, or denies you outright.

Now, as mentioned, focusing on the score is one aspect of the equation. It doesn't so much matter what it reads (so long as it's attractive enough and passing), but rather what you are doing behind the scene to grow it into something powerful later. Delayed gratification along with consistent financial responsibility will yield something great and powerful later. Do this right, and the score will take care of itself permenantly.

Both MyFICO and CreditKarma, are merely a tool. One offers something the other doesn't, and if you are relying only on one and not both, then you are missing out on opportunity. I utilize well over a dozen different tools that I rely upon to make calculations, formulations, and educated decisions - just on credit related scoring itself. Hundred plus tools for many different type of financial decisions. I even create my own custom tools that are very specific to my needs. Use everything you can, within reason, and to your advantage.
