GW

I would give them a call. Many CUs, despite being small and apparently more approachable than large banks, can be sticklers when it comes to GW and PFDs. They adhere to a policy of "If you made mistakes in the past, OK, just don't screw with us." Some know they can delete or update CRA reporting, but choose not to as a policy. Others might not be clued in. If you call, chances are good you'll be transfered to the person responsible for CRA reporting. They can likely tell you whether they don't delete as a policy.

I have been meticulously reading this forum for a few months and think that the advice is awesome! However, my efforts to try to clear up my tainted past have thus far not been sucessful. I worked hard on modifying the sample letters posted here so that they didnt sound so canned and repetitive. I sent out a couple PFD letters and a several GW letters.

My first response to one of my GW letters to my state credit union was as follows:

"Your personal credit history is a reflection of the way in which you manage your credt. Earned ratings cannot be changed. To do so would mean compromising the integrity of the credit reporting system. We regret that your past history may have caused you some credit problems but as you continue to improve your credit quality, your ratings will also improve."

And the response to my first PFD to a CA was as follows:

"We routinely forward our experience regarding collection of debts to several national credit reporting agencies. They are TU, EQ, EX and IN. To maintain the integrity of those files, we do not instruct those agencies to delete account information once an account is paid. We notify them when and if you have paid your account and the date payment was received. Your recourse is to write a statement explaining why you paid your account late, and to have that statement inserted into your credit file. You have the right then, as you do now, to inpect your credit file in accordance with Federal Law. We are a debt collector attempting to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose."

This was certainly not the scope of responses that I was expecting!
Hey JC- thx for your reply! I am all for sending more Gw letters but don't want to piss them off and have it negatively effect me. Should I send the same GW letter again?

The GW was sent to MD State Employes Credit Union (SECU). There are two PFDs. Local Hospital/DEC 2000 (OC) and IC Systems/JAN 2004(CA). The CA Sent me the letter above. Sound familiar?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JC wrote:
As far as the GW letters - keep em going.
The CAs can and will delete. The CU might be a little tougher. I've never asked my CU to do that, but I have had a CA do it. Sometimes you just need to talk to the right CSR at the CA. I talked to the right one and didn't even do a PFD letter. I paid the OC and she told me that once they received notice that it was PIF that she would get it deleted, but couldn't promise that it would happen. The next month it was gone. Just remember to be polite and friendly if you speak to them and it will go a long way. Remember they are just regular people working in an office.

Hi John, sorry about this issue.

The bad news is that some will, some won't delete. It is getting harder and harder to do since the consumer is being made more aware of these tactics through forums like this. That plus the changes in the AU score boost are direct results of too much good info.

That being said, I have had several collections that I forgot to include when I forgot to file BK, mostly small and although none were deleted, they immediately stopped reporting. One for a 62.00 insurance policy that I cancelled before I learned to get everything in writing but Progressive swaers I didn't. Miraculously, some are no longer there though their 7.5 years wouldn't officiallly end til mid 2008.

I understand wanting them deleted but after two years they wont impact your score nearly as much. and remember they come off 7 days from the date of your last delinquency from the original creditor, not the collectors date.
