I called this morning (didn't get the name of the person). I asked him to delete the account and any inq associated with it (I'm not sure if there are any inq...fico didn't give me that info). I did pull it up by my ssn and zip code (i didn't verify total address). It is from a bank I do business with, but I know I have not applied for credit from them or anyone else in a year. They did already have my limit, apr, and balance transfer offer and it didn't match any credit card I have or have had in the last 5 years. None of that showed up on myfico though. It came through with most things blank or $0.00. I will call back and get the name of the person as well as the complete address they sent it to. Should they also have who initiated the card request? I'll ask that also.

thanks

Can a credit card company open a credit card without my permission? I received a fico alert for opening a credit card that I didn't apply for. When I called he said he would close the account. I told him to delete the account and any inq. associated with it. Since I am new to scorewatch I was wondering if this is commom for offers of credit? Would it have automatically deleted when I didn't activate the card they say may be arriving in the mail?

Thanks

Didn't know credit card companies still did that. However being that you had an inq it sounds more like someone applied. Contact the fraud dept at the cc company and see what address they were going to send the card to. I don't see how this is possible unless you forgot that you applied or identity theft, even a possible mistake with social number by the cc company. Yes. They will delete everything from your credit file quickly if done by mistake. Watch your CR like a hawk to make sure this happens. But take this "very seriously" and don't just close the card, speak to the FRAUD dept at the cc company.

If there was an inq then I'd be very worried. No inq it could just be a replacement card taken over from another bank or a mistake. Contact the Fraud dept at the cc company right away to lean how this got on your credit report!!!

I hope they'll clean up this mess immediately, and there won't be any land mines on down the road, but if there are ever any problems, you'll be glad that you've got all this. It's pretty depressing to read on other posts how unwilling businesses and CRA's can be to clean up their messes. Good luck!

They said someone in the bank opened it, but they wouldn't tell me which branch or any information. They just said it would be taken care of. I did take note of everyone I talked to (application dept, fraud dept, and bank). Hopefully this issue will pass. I'm wondering if I need to move my money or if this is just a bank tactic.

Sounds like someone typed in the wrong info at the bank or a software hick-up. Scary stuff ha? Just make sure there are no inqs, if so tell them to remove them. Otherwise you should be ok then.
