Should I send the OC a PFD, and should I offer 50% or the full amount. This is my regular doctor, so I don't want to get on bad terms with him.

Also, I'd like to know if sending the standard PFD letter, with a place for them to sign at the bottom, and a place for them to stamp with their business ID would be just as effective?

I ask this because I don't want to send another letter, then get another vague response that will be nothing I can use.

Sorry this is so long.

hey Astrid! long time...

1) Nasty CA. DV first if you have not... take collecting SOL into consideration. Don't repeat PFD offer until they have validated and only if you can't deal with OC.

2) Might not be legal for them to have any info depending on HIPAA and if they can validate with DV. Does your doc still own the debt? Don't deal with CA if so.

3) Again, does doc own debt? Always negotiate with OC. It is particularly easy to do so when OC is a medical entity. Considering it is your regular doc, frankly (and this is just my opinion) if you can afford to PIF to OC with a PFD, do so. Call their office and speak with whomever does their billing to feel them out. Explain you want to correct this but you definitely want assurance that the CA info will not continue to haunt you on your CBRs.

Now, if this doesn't clear it up easily.... search the boards for info on HIPAA. Also search HIPPA because many of us typo it... including myself!

You should be able to clear up 2 and 3 very easily. As for 1, depends on if it was medical or not. If not... do what you can to not deal with Solomon... nasty....

What does "PFD" mean? Also, I had a collection from 1996 that I paid in full in June2007. The CR shows that it is paid but at a legal amount less than in full. Will this affect my score or should I just leave it alone?

welcome aboard lanier! Please start here: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/fico/board/message?board.id=ficoscoring&thread.id=2654 refer to it well and often.

PFD is a Pay for Delete letter for unpaid debt. There is more info on it thru the above link.

If you have a debt that made it to collections 11 years ago I have no idea why this has not dropped off of your reports yet.

Legally less than full is good in the way that it means you now owe nada on the debt. However, a paid collection is not much better than an unpaid one as far as FICO scoring goes. You still want a paid collection off of your reports. If you had PFD'd when you had paid last June, it would be gone.

All is not lost. On your 3 CBRs, what is showing regarding this debt? Just the CA info, or the OC as well? If you can cut and paste it on a new thread, removing any identifying info that would help.

Message Edited by SmartCookie on 12-20-2007 01:16 PM
