Collection Accounts

Hey all,

Hearts here. Can you tell me how long a collection will negatively affect your credit score? I have a cell phone collection that was placed on my credit in Jan. 2006 and this is the second year as of this past January. I have not paid it because I know it will update and show as such on my report and just show paid and not deleted. I have tried to work with the collection agency, AFNI but they have not budged.

Hi MyHearts. It will remain on your CR for 7 years, and is a major drag on your scores.

If the OC still owns the account, then I'd deal with them instead of the CA.

Start negotiating for a PFD.

Got tht Happy Days. I meant talking in sending a letter communication. They never responded anyway. I am sure that they get these DV and PFD letters all the time.

IF you sent the DV CMRRR and they didn't answer they can not report. NEVER PFD without an answer from a DV!

If you didn't send it CMRRR you have to start over!

Cingular is really easy talk to them have them pull the account back from AFNI they can do that . They Just did that for me like two weeks ago and Cingular credited the amount and closed it really good to work with Just explain to them what happened why you did'nt pay . But most of all have them pull the account back from AFNI then AFNI has to remove it from file . I know how easy Cingular is they credited me for an account that had a balance on it for 479.00 so talk very nice to the rep .

Afni bites. They will refuse to delete. Simply because they are jerks. I found out the hard way why it is so important to do a DV. I was an idiot and paid an account that wasn't even mine!! (Yes, was before I found you guys)

Thanks for the headsup on calling Cingular. I am going to call them tomorrow and see what happens. I will post any responses.

I must be special, before I knew about these boards I paid off AFNI they also reported on my CR under their other name as well, so I was hit 4 times for 2 accts, I simply called and asked very NICELY that since I paid them off would the pretty please remove them and poof ALL 4 were gone

But the other poster is right, IF At&t still have the account do a PFD thru them and make sure you ask them to stop all CA's from reporting and have them remove it from your reports.
