DMP expirences and who would you refer?

Hello everyone, can you please share with me any positive/negative exp. with a DMP. I was seriously debating on going to a debt settlement program until many people on the forums may have changed my views on this and i have decided to go dmp. can you please refer me to anyone and let me know what to watch for. I have heard if you continue to do certain things wth a DMP than everything should work fine...i look forward to hearing your comments!

We used Consumer Credit Counseling Service. You can check the web site below for reputable services. DMP's are hard to stick with, but they will get you out of debt.

I have been in a DMP through CCCS for 28 months now and have been very happy with it. I tried to get creditors to work with me to get my interest rates lowered so I could afford payments without luck. Some of my accounts were charging over 30% interest. It was worth the $20 per month they charge to negotiate better interest rates, some 0%. My debt has gone down from $54K to $21K and I should be debt free by mid 2009. My credit reports have comments on some of my accounts that say they are being paid through a credit counseling program. I understand those comments will disappear once the accounts are paid in full. My score is no worse than it would be anyway, with the delinquencies and collections I had. If I had it to do over again, I would do it - and recommend CCCS.

CCCS is good and legitimate. Be very careful when choosing, as there are many out there that are very bad. One way to tell is by the fees they charge -- it should be no more than $10-20 a month which they need to charge for administrative fee. Nobody should keep your first month's payment or anything like that. Also, I would check with state attorney general's office before signing up -- many of these so-called DMPs are in trouble for fraudulent activities. Your AGs office will be able to tell you if the company you have chosen is in any trouble. In my state, for instance, there are several DMPs that are being investigated by the AG. The AGs office here actually recommends CCCS to people. Good luck!

CCCS has been around forever - and has always had a good rep to my knowledge (and they are in every sate, BTW).

I think you are making a good decision by going with a DMP over the 'settlement' company.
