when a CA says that they sold your account to another CA can they no longer validate the debt?

That is correct! They sold it & should have deleted all reporting. IF it is still showing on your CR Dispute it as * not mine*

Watch your CR for another CA to report.

Know your SOL before doing anything with your CR

if sold - they have no 'authority' over the account to collect or validate - and it should be removed form your CRs also.
