I've been reading related threads and haven't quite seen the answers I'm looking for so I figured id start a new thread.

Im in the process of applying for a VA loan, but I have a DFAS account on my experian report that show as a CO account, but its still with the OC (DFAS). I disputed the other CRA's due to SOL and got it removed, but Eperian has a different reporting date. Has anyone had any luck paying these type of collections and getting them removed from their reports? Im also looking to get a tax return this year which I'm sure they're going to collect for the debt. Will this re-age the account. It's set to fall off about a year from now, and I'm looking to buy my house within the next 4 months. The lender I'm working with seems to think that if I have a government debt, I wont be able to get a VA or FHA loan. Any Thoughts?

If you owe government money you will not qualify. You can be on a payment plan which will make you qualifiable.

Some say 6 months, some say a year. Personally I have seen them approved with first payment and proof of payment plan.

From their website; I would start but making the calls to the numbers listed for FEDDEBT, find out who it is listed with and find out what their policies are. You will have additional fees I believe on top of what is owed in your statements. I am not sure if you have recourse but to pay them since it was Federal Debt.

We report to commercial credit bureaus when an account becomes delinquent. Accounts with no payments within 30 days of the initial debt notice are considered delinquent for payment purposes. We will report a delinquent account to the credit bureau if we do not receive a payment within 62 days of the date of the initial debt notification letter. We attempt to notify you using your last known mailing address. All delinquent accounts are reported as a "collection account" on the consumer credit report. The debt will remain as a collection account while on the credit bureau report; however, any subsequent payment activity is reported to the credit bureaus on a monthly basis. If you believe the information reported by the credit bureau is incorrect, contact the credit bureau.

Delinquent account information is reported to the following credit bureaus:

Equifax 800-685-1111 Experian 888-397-3742

Trans Union 800-888-4213 Innovis 800-540-2505

If you contact us once you pay your debt in full, we will ask the credit bureau to delete the debt from your credit file, which can take up to 90 days.

FedDebt will refer delinquent debts to private collection agencies for collection assistance. The private collection agencies that provide collection assistance to the DFAS and other federal agencies are:

AGENCY

TELEPHONE

FedDebt

888-826-3127

CBE Group

888-895-4766

ConServe

866-547-0501

Diversified Collection Services

888-310-2006

Linebarger, Googgan, Blair & Sampson, LLP

877-815-8501

Pioneer Credit Recovery

877-907-1820

Progressive Financial Services

866-484-0204

Only those accounts that become delinquent are referred to the collection agencies through FedDebt. If you have any questions, please contact FedDebt at 888-826-3127.

Accounts may be referred up to two times.
