Homestead Exemption Approved

My taxes due was $1,414 for 2015. I purchased my condo August 2015. The homestead exemption was not applied since I bought a foreclosure property. Now that my homestead excemption has been approved, I wish I can get a refund minus the $469 that I will be paying.

When did you apply for homestead? Here (FL) if you have applied on or before March 1 2016 your homestead would be approved for 2016. There would be no refund for 2015. If you didn't apply for homestead until after Mar 1 2016, then your homestead would not take effect until 2017.

I submitted the application ahead of time in August 2015 and it was processed in January 2016. I received the approval email last week.

Congratulations on getting your homestead timely - it saves quite a bit of money in the short run and the long run. The longer you own the property as a primary residence with the homestead exemption, the more $$ you save Some people forget to file - I think it is because of the odd deadline date (March 1st). Hardly any deadline ends on the first of a month.

My realtor told me file soon as I got the deed and I did just that.

I just received the information in the mail to file for mine (central FL).

Gotta get on that, the time will fly by before I know it.
