Follow our Journey of building our first home!!

This is the beginning of the beginning for us, we've had the bad credit, the high intrest rates, the renting instead of buying because we couldn't due to poor credit, the wasting and literally throwing money away with high interest car loans, furniture loans, etc....now since our eyes have been opened and we have taken the oath to be better and have better we are able to build our first home, Come on in and join us (Glad to have you)! Buidling contract signed on 9/25/16 and our final apt for home selections on tomorrow 10/10/16. Let the building begin!

Awesome!! Keep us posted! I hope to start my app in January! Will start LP have 1 40 CO that won't GW and is there until 2018 but hopefully nothing comes out of the woodwork. Did you opt out if pre screen before you applied ? It has been suggested to do so I definitely will!

I have 4 small CO thats due to fall off between 3/17-12/17... Going FHA the LO doesnt see this as an issue being that i have great payment history and 2 paid off vehicle loans that shows good on my profile for the past 4 yrs. I opt'd out after i apped so nothing is sent throught my building process.

The color scheme of our home, Brick, Granite counter tops, Siding, carpet and Cabinets!!! Today was the 3rd and final appointment for the design center.... now the waiting game. We should be meeting with the construction Manager next on our list...

oh dont forget when you meet with construction manager this is wher eyou can make some changes as well add any water spickets you need they tend to only do 2 one in back and one in front so we added a thirdone to the other side of house- also any outside lighting gates for the fence usually can add patio extensions or fence extensions as well if you have gas in the house add a gas hookup for a dryer.

cc yes we are in Texas and staying fo rthe long haul lol. Born and raised, I hate the summers and the humidity with the heat but I wouldnt know what to do with myself anywhere else,

Also yesterday at the design center it was made very clear that we could not alter or change anything once the selections were made. It was repeated over and over and I think you are charged a significant fee if you do decide to change anything soooo we will not be changing. They gave us 3 appts and gave us time to think about the selections so i think we are good with those. We get 2 water spickets on in front and one in the back and hubby is a charcoal grillin man so he didnt want the gas outside. We got the bay window and covered patio option that was an extra 17,800 to add on plus the 16,800 aded at the studio so our total should be around 265,000 from a base of 224,000

great! i am building with lennar in the DFW area. started the journey march and closing next week on the 21st took about 6 months waiting was the hardest part but every week we went by and saw the changes and was able to stay in contact with construciton manager thru the process so when somethign was worng i let him know and it was corrected so tomorrow we do the punch list wlak thru there should be almost nothing for him to do

^^^Smart options! A covered patio is one of the best options you can add down here in the south. I'm in Florida (one of my daughters is in Austin area) and it makes a huge difference on the value of your home - even if you don't plan to sell for years. I've had many buyers (I'm a Realtor) pass up good homes due to it not having a covered patio.

covered patio is a definite need and good investment. i ended up adding it to ours as well along with extended fence to take advantage of the over sized lot all in all i did roughly 65K of upgardes 20 which went to lot premimus but i got everything i wanted in this new home salesman was worried about appriasial but actually appraised for more than we bought for so already instant equity! so i feel good about the choices i made

I felt good about our selection as well, the extended patio is good for us, we like to entertains and BBQ a lot other than that we upgraded the kitchen to gourmet which inlcuded double ovens (all stainless steel) a modern cooktop/ microwave and raised ceiling and kitchen cabinets, we also got granite countertops and upgraded to tile in all of the down stairs carpeted areas which was almost ALL of downstairs except our flex room we will turn into a formal dining area.....i CAN SEE IT NOW! lol

I know exactly what you mean! I selected covered patio and bay window elevation for our new build and that covered patio is all I can think of. Being in Georgia, it gets comparably hot, so it's going to be key. We also forked the small bit to have the patio cover wired for a fan. Can't wait to get to BBQ'ing.

The structural options can get expensive, but I am thinking that is the best thing to do with the money. We did covered patio, bay window elevation and a side entry garage which was about 11.5k. I wasn't about to compromise on any of that, you'll be glad you didn't either.

Xistaben I defintely glad I did those options, you can rack up and pretty hefty upgrade bill at the design center. I got the wires pendant light over the bar area and a ceiling fan in the living room.. it was pricey just for wiring but we plan on doing a lot of upgrades on our own. I wanted the whole house painted because I hate white walls and wanted beige which was 2,000...I also gave up the optional media room that was a hefty 30,000 which added an extra 350 square feet. Geesh!!

One step closer did my buyer orientation and first walk thru today found about 7 things for them to fix got final closing disclosure as well today closing set for next Friday 10 am final walk Thur next Thursday at 4 6 months of watching them build can't believe it's here now time to get busy packing and once I move get the current house painted and on the market lots of interest in it so should go quickly
