topic IRS payment with credit card - Non-purchasing spouse in Mortgage Loans

Can I, as the non-purchasing spouse (I am not on the mortgage), make a payment on our IRS taxes with a credit card and not hurt our loan approval? The card is only in my name and my husband will be the only name on the loan. We live in NC, a non-community property state so my debt/income doesn't have to be counted. When they pull the Tax Return and Tax Account Transcripts and see a recent payment, will they want us to account for where that payment came from? And if we do have to account for it, will it be fine that it was put on my credit card since I'm not on the loan?

I would think you're good, but you should prolly ask your mortgage broker. Non community property state equals goodness i should think. And please say hello to my daughter at Duke. Nearly through her PhD.😀

Thank you for responding! Congrats to your daughter, that is awesome! We are new to the state, but one of the things we liked was the emphasis on education in this area. <3

Yes, you can and it won't hurt the loan approval.
