topic loan modification and taxes in Mortgage Loans

We were just approved to do our 3 month trial period for our loan midification. The loan counselor said that back taxes can cause problems and disqualify you. She specifically said IRS. We owe state income taxes from when we lived in california, one years worth. We now live in Idaho. Can/ will this cause a problem? Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks

No experience with your question in relation for getting a loan modification, but if you were applying for a mortgage and the California income taxes weren't a tax lien, then as long as you were on a payment plan and making payments then it'd be acceptable. I imagine doing a loan modification could look at them similarly.
