Looking for mortgage/credit score info?

I'm looking at some recreational land. I have not been in the mortgage game for a while so I came here to get some tips from you guys. I paid off my house 4 yrs ago (my credit score back then was about 770). I don't have any other debt. I pay my CC off every month on time. I'll have a sizeable downpayment for the land. but I need to borrow some. I want to be able to write off the interest on my taxes so I guess I'll have to get a loan/mortgage on my house.

Any tips or suggestions for getting loan/mortgage on my house? Who has the best going rates?

Credit score... who has the best value for checking credit scores?

Also, I read a few posts. Why is it bad when a company inquires about your credit score?

Credit Karma, they're free. They only give you one score though (Transunion).

Credit Karma's credit score is not a true FICO score. The score pulled from the site may vary greatly from your true FICO scores.

Equifax and TransUnion FICO scores can be pulled from this site. You can also get your Equifax FICO score from the Equifax website. You can also get your TransUnion score from www.transunioncs.com.

I've read some bad stuff about creditkarma. Info is not secure and identitiy theft type stuff. It was several months ago that I read the article so I don't remember all the details, just that I was going to stay away from it. As Lel said its not your real score, so it serves no purpose anyway.
