My husband recently paid a medical collection to the OC (it is being reported as unpaid by the CA). He initiated on online dispute that the collection is paid in full (we had not yet found this thread). We are still waiting on the results, should the collection fall off because it is paid? After we get the results and if it does not get deleted should we send the handwritten dispute letter to the CRA or go on to the next step (letter to OC).

Thank you for your help!

*I have already completed the opt-out steps

Its unpaid, ok, but look carefully at your reports to see if there is any notation on them that you have an ongoing dispute, or it was disputed and verified. I cannot help you unless you can answer this question.

...so this is very embarrassing...husband just informed me that he never got around to actually disputing the collection, he just paid it 3 days ago. So now I'm assuming we just wait for the status to change to paid and then send off the HIPPA letter?

You can begin the HIPAA letter process now, here are the first few steps.

Step #1: Opt Out of two things: Your Credit Reports and
All Creditors. The first one ensures that the CRAs will not sell your
personal data to anyone else (haha…no more data mining). The second one
will prevent JDBs (and CAs) from buying and selling bogus collections.

Use this link to opt-out of your credit reports

OPT-OUT CREDIT REPORTS (or call 1.888.567.8688)

Use

Send the pre-HIPAA dispute letter to the CRA ('s) CM (no RR, this is
the only letter in the HIPAA process where you will not send it
CMRRR) and wait up to 35 days for the results of the their
investigation(s). Be
sure to handwrite this letter (and the envelop too) using personalized
stationary and teal blue ink. If your med collection is deleted, you're
finished. If its not deleted, please post again in this forum before continuing on with the HIPAA progam. Good luck!

PRE-HIPAA MEDICAL DISPUTE LETTER

Check all three of your reports to see if they are marked as "disputed and verified"; this is very important to know. Also, be sure to check your reports directly from the CRAs, not FICO reports.
