Pay or Wait? Best Strategy for CO

I have a CO (student loan) that doesn't fall off my report until 2014. The balance is $12,000. The OC hasn't attempted any collection efforts thus far. I've been working over the past year or so to rehab my credit and was looking at ways to address this creditor.

Should I begin making payments to satisfy the debt (since it'll never SOL)? Will that cause the account to appear "fresh" for FICO scoring? Should I just let it sit idle instead?

Is there another strategy I'm not aware of that works better?

Student loans are an animal in their own right, how long has it been since you went bad on this? Is this federal or private? Either case, if it is in CO you probably need to look into loan rehabilitation to get it back into the regular system and start paying. Do not delay much with this, when they do come, itll come with levys, garnishment, and default status that will probably last longer then a 7yr CO.

MOD: Recommend this be moved to the Student Loans area?

It is private student loan. It's been bad for a couple years. My understanding is that private loans can't be rehabbed (at least not as a rule like federal ones).
