CHEXSYSTEMS QUESTION

Hi Everyone!

I have one BB&T (Branch Banking & Trust) account reporting to Chexsystems. Date reported is 4/24/06.

What do you think my chances are for applying to a bank like Wachoiva or BofA? Will I get denied opening a checking account for this? I really want to get a bank account back open. I've been using a prepaid debit card (netspend) since 2007.

My experience with this is very limited but where I live some banks and/or CU will not open a new account under any circumstances as long as you have a problem that is reported to Chexsystems. My local CU will open an account if you have proof that the old overdrawn account has been paid in full.

I would simply call Wachovia or other local institutions and ask what their particular policy is.

Well IDK if this helps or not I have a US Bank and a BB&T account reporting to the Chexsystem and was able to get approved for a BoA account. I also applied for my bank account online so I don' t know if that makes a difference or not. I've had the account for about two years now with on problems with it.

i've had account in the chexsystem before but was able to open an account with BOA. As long as you have no banks on your credit report for any reasons.

They check your credit instead of chex systems

I actually have both with them since I enrolled with their keep the change program.

Well I know Chase and the CU I'm a memeber of deined me before BoA. I wanted Chase or a closer bank since the closes BoA branch is over 100 miles away from me.

I know that all the major banks besides boa uses chex systems

I have applied to these banks when i needed one and had a chex systems report

I live in NY

Wachovia

Citi

Chase

Boa

Commerce

Greenpoint-North fork

esl credit union

Banco popolar

citizens

wamu

The only one that accepted me was BOA

I was able to open a BOA checking/savings and a CU savings only with a chexsystems entry from Wachovia on file.

Also if you are embarrassed about asking, just do it online. The the most private way of opening an account.

That's what I did mizzcharles.

Just apply online for BoA all they can do is either send you a letter saying you have an acocunt or you don't.

Hi all,

UPDATE to this string as I am the OP.

I took the suggestions and called BofA to see what they would say since I still have BB&T reporting. They said no way pretty much.

I called Wachovia, even though I had 2 NSF accounts with them in 2007. I had already paid them in full amount 3 months ago. I told them that I still had BB&T reporting on Chexsystems. I was told as long as Wachovia's were paid it would be ok. The personal banker rep went ahead and investigated to make sure their recovery department showed both paid. I went and met with her today and I obtained a checking/savings account with no problem!

I've had my BoA account for over a year and still in great standing and they didn't decline me. I also didn't call them I just applied online and they accepted me no problem.

Hello! I was reading the posts and I was having the same problem opening a checking account. But after reading last nite, I applied for a checking account with BofA and was approved. I have a couple of charged off accounts on chexsystems from a while back...I also applied at my CU and was denied and they DO use chexsystems...Hope this helps!
