Charge off - Chase

We had a credit card with Chase which was opened in May, 2006. My hubby's credit report says $8276 was written off and the account was closed at creditor's grant. It says it was a charge off. This one is out of Westerville, OH.

We are in Louisiana. Any advice on this one? Thanks!

Never mind...I would call the OCs on these accounts...were any SOLD...to CAs???...

When you say "this one is out of Westerville, OH" is that where you lived when the account was opened?

What is your SOL? If you now live in a state different from the state you lived in when you opened the account, the creditor can use whichever state's SOL is more favorable to them.

Is a CA reporting the account or have they contacted you about the account? Is the OC reporting a balance?

Louisiana SOL is something like 10 years...RIDICULOUS...

Louisiana SOL for credit card debt is 3 years.

Youch. Ohio's SoL is 6 years on credit cards.

If they DID try to sue you for the debt in Ohio (assuming that's where you lived prior), make sure that you have the case domesticated in LA (thereby using the kinder SoL). They may fuss and you may need to get a lawyer to assist, but that's still oodles better than shelling out $8K!!!
