First post but I have been lurking here for 2 months.

I had a medical collection from June of 2008 that should have never been there due to hospital billing errors. I paid the hospital but it still went to collections. I had resigned myself to the fact that I was stuck with it. Other than a few lates that will fall off in December and Februry from me being a little lax with credit cards 6 years ago after my oldest was born this is my only baddie. I have about 50% util that I will have down to nothing or close to it by the end of the summer.

After reading here I took a gamble and sent a GW letter to the hospital billing department. I stated a quick short summary and also thanked them for their great service while I was a patient. Billing Manager just called me to get more information, thanked me for the letter and said she was going to call the agency this morning to get them to remove the account from my credit report. Helps that other than this every payment I have ever made to this hospital over the last 3 years has been on time too.

As of yesterday I had TU of 705 and Eq of 685. Since my #1 bad item on my score for both according to myfico is the collection and #2 for TU is the age of the collection my score should be taking a huge jump in the next month or so! I'm so excited right now! We are going to be getting a new car in the spring and I am determined to get tier one financing and this collection was my last hurdle to clear!

Thank you all for the advice and giving everyone the encouragement to take control of their credit situations! I need to get a new car either later this year or next year thanks to having 3 kids and the husband's truck being on its last legs. I hope to save enough to finance only a miniml amount and now I can be assured to easily get tier one financing!
