These guys are true bottom feeders. I had them contact me on a very old account, not mine, and way past reporting limits. I sent them a letter certified mail disputing validity and requesting mail only contact. They stopped sending me stuff, and later I was contacted by another bottom feeder attorney. I assume that once alliance realized they couldn't collect, they sold it.

I sent the same standard DV letter to teh attorney and two years later still have yet to hear another word.

Tell them in writing not to call you, and log all activity. If they continue to attempt to collect, file a lawsuit.

When you are in the right, it enables you to take out all of your CA frustrations on the company dumb enough to break the law. Get 'em!

Ok so about 10 years ago I had a card with the now defunct fleet bank. there was probably something left on it in 2003 when I closed it but it would have been an insignificant amount... that was about the time I fell ill. Anyway. This collector calls me today asks to verify who I am, I tell him nothing but my name and refuse to verify my social (mmm FCRA). He goes on spewing this outragious non-sense about how I supposably made a $25 payment in 2009 re-opening the SOL. They want $990 and insisted I check me credit reports tonight since there might be a surprise

I staunchly denied making the out of SOL payment and asked him for a full validation in the mail, he refused.

Now that I've cleaned up, mostly by paying off just about everything that was accurate on my reports and disputing what wasn't I'm worried they're gonna try to pull some non-sense and add this account from 2001-03 with a 2009 alleged payment date onto the reports. Would they get away with it? They're asking me for $990 and told them if they could provide me proof of the alleged payment I made (cancelled check), an original agreement with the OC, the amount owed via copy of statement with OC, and proof that they're licensed to collect in massachusetts that I would PIF. He told me they wouldn't do that and admitted under questioning that they in fact have no records but might leave me a surprise and that if I wanted to I could call back within (24 hours only) and settle with them for $450. I promised him that if they did I'd sue. XD But seriously would they actually attempt to do that?

Thanks, they told me that they purchased this debt from another outside collector leach in April. I can confirm this as my Experian report shows an initial soft inquiry from them in the beginning of that month. I'm not sure about the SOL but would a judge believe I sent one single $25 payment on a $990 alleged debt after statute had expired just to make my life miserable? LOL. They have no proof but that doesn't stop them from calling. They did at least 3 times today.
Their collector who spoke Indian English called himself Mark Smith. If that's a Mark Smith then my name is Chuck Norris. I can send them a C&D but wouldn't that leave them open to just selling it off to someone else?
I mean I must admit I sort of enjoyed my conversation with the collector. Kept him on the phone for 25 mins joking about this alleged debt and listening to his nonsense. Then 'ok I'm bored now get lost'... It's amusing once or twice maybe but I'd rather get rid of them.
