Depends on how recent they were...inquiries more than 1 year old...does not affect score...almost at all...I heard inquiries can cost from 0-10 points each...so not sure in your case...

This is correct.

Section 609(a)(3)(A) of the FCRA requires the CRA to disclose to you the ID of everyone who gets your CR. Technically, even if a creditor had no PP whatsoever, the CRA has to list the inquiry on your report. So removing an inquiry is illegal because it means the CRA is rewriting history.

Of course, it's doubtful they will get slapped for it, because it's highly unlikely that any consumer will sue a CRA because they REMOVED an inquiry.

Not to mention the fact that it was an alleged 10 year old med collection that is no longer within SoL or 7 year reporting period...

How is it that they are able to delete accounts, but not inquiries. That would be re-writing history as well if they took off an account that was once there before. It's total B.S. that collection agencies have been getting away with hard pulling reports to bully people into paying debts and damaging credit files in the process.

Message Edited by UpUpUp on 07-08-2008 04:01 PM

So what's the point of the FCRA Section 604 which determines permissible purpose? It is designed to keep the whole rest of the world from getting your CR for nefarious purposes. If they had no PP, why can't it be deleted. Because they still got a copy of your CR, and so the CRA is required to inform you that they did. The whole PP thing unfortunately has nothing to do with generating inquiries which can affect your credit score.

They also refused to recode to soft-inquiry, since it was a collection agency who pulled a hard and that is obviously not a request for new credit.
