Remove AU or just help pay down balance???

The Discover card that I'm an AU on with a $1000 limit just started reporting with a $991 balance..... Of course my score dropped 20 points!!!!!!! What should I do? Should I remove myself as AU or should I just pay down the balance for DH??? What would be the best way to rebound from the points lost???

Either or. But optimally, it's always better to pay down debt. Will removing the AU hurt you AAoA? Good thing with AU's is you can add/remove failry quickly. If you remove and your score drops further you can always be added back on.

The card is actually new opened 08/01/2011.

Then it sounds like the NEW account PLUS the high UTIL is what is dropping your score. IMO, I'd remove the AU status.

Thanks for the advice kjm79... I went ahead & called Dicover today & had myself removed as an AU on DH's acct & also called EQ, EX & TU to have the TL removed off of my CR's. That'll be completed in a few days & hopefully i'll see an increase!!
